When I camp in a tent I am always looking for a tent that will have enough room for me and whomever I am going to sleep with. The next thing I look for is will all my equipment fit inside the tent. Most people don’t think about measuring how long their sleeping bag is and if the tent will accommodate it.

I like to have enough room in my tent for 2 sleeping bags, 2 chairs and a small card table. This comes in handy if it decides to rain all weekend. Set up the tent at home ahead of time to go on you camping trip. Make sure everything you are going to take will fit the way that you want. Also while you have the tent set up would be a great opportunity to apply seam sealer to all the seams to help keep out the rain. This would also be a good time to make certain the ground cloth is the right size as well. Either way making sure you have enough room inside the tent us a good thing.

Extreme weather tip. Take a ground cloth to place under the tent before you set the tent up. And take a ground cloth to put inside the tent under your sleeping bag and gear. the ground cloth under the tent will help keep rain or melting snow from getting to the bottom of the tent. Having a ground cloth inside the tent will help keep the condensation away from the bottom of your gear since it may be warmer inside the tent, well lets hope so anyway, lol.

Remember, no matter the season or conditions it is a good idea to have a tent that has enough room for what ever you may need to put inside.

Cold weather camping is an activity that may not be for the whole family, but for those that relish the cold, the outdoors is the place to be. Cold weather camping is camping in windy, cold or wet weather with temperatures less than 40 degrees. The key to camping in this kind of weather is staying warm and hydrated.

If a fire is necessary to stay warm, so are more clothes. In cold weather, layering is essential. Several light layers is much more effective than one heavy layer, providing better insulation. Also, layers can be shed or added to maintain a comfortable temperature. Loose clothing is also better for insulating than tight clothes. Thermal polypropylene underwear is the best choice, next is wool. Cotton is not a good insulator and will not do well if it becomes wet.

Just as layering is essential, so is staying dry. If socks or other clothes become wet, a change as soon as possible is necessary. Polypropylene, wool and gore-tex are the best options for keeping moisture out and the skin and under-layers dry. For socks, layering is again a good idea; thin liners are as a first layer, then wool.

Coats and hats are important pieces. A gore-tex coat is a great choice as it provides warmth but allows moisture to escape. Make sure it is large enough to go over all the layers. A hood is a nice asset to a coat, even with a hat. It can keep rain and snow out of the face and off the neck. As for a hat, many different styles exist, some cover just the top of the head, some cover the ears, and many cold weather campers choose a ski mask for facial coverage.

Another essential is gloves or mittens, or both. Because with mittens, fingers touch, more warmth is generated. Many campers sleep in their mittens and use gloves for daily tasks. Gloves with flip off fingers are a good idea because the palm can retain heat while work is done, then the fingers of the glove can be put back on.

It’s also important to consider the gear that you’re going to bring on your camping trip. Having a good tent is very important and will go a long way to making your nights more comfortable. A good cold weather camp sleeping bag is also essential – nothing will ruin your winter camping trip faster than being cold at night!

When cold weather camping, drinking water is key – lots and lots of water. Dehydration can happen fast in the cold. For food, complex carbs will help keep the body warm. Potatoes are great camping food for warmth and energy, and they can easily be slow-cooked in the coals of your campfire..

Cold weather camping can be exhilarating! Just remember to stay warm, dry and hydrated!

Summer is on its way, and families are looking forward to spending quality time together. Camping with children can be the best way to enjoy quality time, and have plenty of fun. Planning in advance is the key to making it a great experience for everyone concerned. Not only do you need to know what you want to do, but also be prepared for unexpected changes to your plans.

Your camping trip should start with a basic time frame. If you have very young children in your family, it might be a good idea to limit your trip to two or three days. This will give your youngsters plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors, while ensuring they not become overly tired or bored. A little structure in your plans is also a positive start. However, leaving them open to changes is also beneficial. Your family may decide they like an activity so much that they want to do more of it. Fishing, cooking outdoors, and similar activities fit into this category.

When you are camping with children, be sure you have the supplies you need. The more comfortable and convenient your trip is for your entire family, the more fun you will have together. Your tents, sleeping bags, and items needed for cooking and eating, are at the top of the must-have list. Don’t forget to make sure that the kids camping sleeping bags you got are the right size for them. Kids often grow so fast that the sleeping bag they used last year may not be big enough for them this year.

Planning for unexpected changes includes weather changes. Even during the warmest summer months, you may experience a drop in temperature, or a sudden rain shower. Being prepared in advance means your trip will not be spoiled. Extra clothing and maybe even a battery-operated heater will go a long way to keeping your family dry and warm.

Having age-appropriate entertainment is a necessity for a successful camping trip. While you do not want to go overboard, entertainment that is both fun and relaxing can be the ideal way to end a day in the outdoors. Whether you want to share ghost stories, play board games or cards, or sing songs, these activities can make your trip even better.

Camping is an exciting experience for everyone. You do not need to put much time or effort into thinking of ways to make it a great experience for your children, as their natural curiosity and love of the outdoors is all they need. Your camping trip can be an adventure for them to delight in and fondly remember for many years to come.

For those who love the great outdoors there is no other activity that can be as exciting as camping. It can be a great bonding experience between friends and family and of course, its perfect for people who just like to be outside and admire nature and its beautiful surroundings. Once you have planned out your camping journey the most important thing you need to do is sort out your camping equipment. There is lots to choose from so sort out the must haves from the basic materials.

The first thing you need to do is figure out your tents – depending on the amount of people who are going together you might need an extra large tent for a group or perhaps two average size ones. It’s all depending on the space you need. Family tents can be a good option for as many as 4 people, as they are very portable and easy to set up. They’re also usually quite sturdy and ready to handle the occasional rain storm. Family style tents are always perfect for those going on a long weekend camping vacation or even a music festival or other outdoor gathering.

The next item that needs to be figured out is sleeping bags for camping, and any of the various sleeping bag accessories that you might want. Make sure you have a rucksack in hand for all your basic items and of course you could use it to fold up your sleeping bag when you are finished. There are different types of sleeping bags – for couples you could even choose an inflatable bed, but this can take up a lot of space, so it’s usually not a good family choice. Its best to stick to the soft roll away blankets and beds when space is an issue.

The other types of camping equipment are all depending on what activities you are planning to do while you are out camping. Knives, torches and comfortable footwear could be considered necessary but it all depends on your location and of course the time of year you are going. For winter, it’s important to bring gloves, a good jacket and warm boots. For summer you will need less gear and many people like to bring various cooking items to prepare a barbecue or meals during the evening. The type of tent you bring also depends on the time of year you are going, be sure to check the weather forecast beforehand and make sure you have the strongest tend needed.

Camping is a great experience for nature lovers and it is one of the best family friendly activities around. Going camping is one of those rare activities that appeal to all ages. It is an activity that grandparents, teens, and young children can all enjoy with one another. It is also a fairly affordable activity, even for those who are on tight budget. Most public parks offer camp sites at low daily rates, and if you are willing to go without electricity you’ll not only get the “full” camping experience but you will be saving even more.

Not only is camping fun, but it can also be therapeutic. In today’s busy world it is easy for families to become disconnected and an activity like camping is a wonderful way to get rid of the many distractions the modern world offers and spend some quality time together.

So how can your family get the most out of a camping trip? Here are several great ways for families to become closer during their getaway.

Leave the Gadgets Behind

To get the most out of your family camping trip leave the technical gadgets behind. You might think that your family wouldn’t last a day without their laptops, cell phones, iPods, and hand-held games, but your family will have a much better chance of connecting when the distractions are gone and they are able to fully focus in on one another.

Give Everyone a Job

Setting up camp takes teamwork and planning which is great for family unity. It is important for every family member to feel needed, and if everyone has their own assigned role they will feel more involved in the camping experience. Young children could be given the task of cleaning up the campsite while older children could be in charge of refilling the water jugs. You may be surprised at how enthusiastic your kids will be when it comes to doing chores “outside” of the home setting.

Keep It Simple – Even When Camping In Style

Tent camping is not for everyone, and many families choose to camp in a pop-up trailer or R.V. which has many of the comforts of home. You can still have the ultimate family camping experience in a fully loaded trailer as long as you trade in the television set for board games.

Another strategy here is to start out by camping in a car or an RV, and then move to a cabin, and then to a tent. Sometimes easing your family members into the whole camping experience can help them enjoy it more than getting the whole experience at once. You can also bring extra camping equipment along on the first few trips, so that you are sure you didn’t forget anything important. Nothing can ruin a great camping trip quicker than not being able to drink a hot cup of coffee in the morning!

Try out One Another’s Favorite Activities

It is important to remember that every family member’s interests are equally important, and going camping, may mean something different to each individual. One person might love swimming and hiking, while another’s idea of fun is sitting around the campfire playing cards. Take turns doing every persons favorite camping activities as an entire family. It will help you to learn more about one another, and you may just discover some new interests along the way.

All sleeping bags are not the same. This is one of the most important factors to consider when you are planning a camping trip. When you choose the right sleeping bags, they will enhance your camping experience.

While it is essential to choose the right size bag, some people tend to overlook this factor. If you want to be sure you have the right bag, you should put some thought into this prior to making a purchase. “One size fits all” does not work when you are shopping for larger-sized adults and small children! The bag you choose should allow the person to move freely, so sleeping will be comfortable.

The material of your sleeping bags is another important consideration. You want to be warm and cozy, yet not overheated, when you sleep. A little attention to the material and its thickness will help you to select the bag that is right for you.

Choosing a well-constructed bag is always the best option. Even if you pay a few extra dollars, you will see why it is beneficial. The material will stay in nicer condition, the zippers will be easier to operate, and they will last much longer than bags which are not made as well. They will give you many seasons of exciting camping experiences without the need for repair or replacement.

If your camping plans include young children, asking their input on sleeping bags will help them to feel included. You can even find bags decorated with cartoon characters and other popular designs. Choosing a bag your child loves will increase his anticipation for the upcoming camping trip. If he has a favorite character, he will be delighted to find it on a camping sleeping bag. These bags which are made especially for children are constructed to be safe and comfortable.

A sleeping bag does not need to cost a lot of money. You can find the bag which has all of the features you want at a relatively low price. If you put a little thought into your specific needs, it will be easy to find the right bag for you and for everyone else in your family. Whether you are shopping online, or at one of your favorite local stores, choosing sleeping bags can be a fun experience in itself. It is one of the first steps in making your camping trip exciting and special for your entire family.
